JOBS AND LOCAL ECONOMY

Watford was once leading not just in our country or even Europe, but the world, with the largest printing company and a thriving printing industry right on our door step. I firmly believe that we have a huge challenge and responsibility to our town in reinvigorating what was once a vibrant manufacturing industry here.

The devastation and job loss this pandemic has caused has affected each and every one of us in more ways than we can imagine!

We as a country have fared well in supporting our people with various social welfare schemes such as the Tenant Eviction Ban and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, that have enabled many individuals and families to survive the financial challenges caused by this pandemic.

As a small business owner, I personally understand the struggles that businesses are facing during these tough times. Making sure that people in our communities have the option to continue or return to gainful employment and have new employment opportunities is paramount.

We now face the challenge of energising and stimulating our local economy, especially key sectors such as hospitality which makes up a large part of Intu Watford, and the many wonderful local shops and businesses in our mini high streets.

This means supporting our local businesses that make over 95 % of our economy and encouraging them to return to work safely.
